The upcoming sequel to Frozen 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Disney films of all time, according to the studio.
It’s already set to open to the tune of $300m globally, and according to Disney and Pixar director Pete Docter, that’s not counting the film’s $10m budget.
“We’ve seen the initial reaction to this, and we think that people really want to see this movie,” Docter told the Hollywood Reporter.
“And it’s an incredible film.
We’re still in the early stages of making it, but it’s going to be really good.”
It’s been a while since Frozen 2 was released in the States, and it was a surprise that Disney wasn’t releasing it on Christmas Day, rather than the traditional Monday.
That’s changed, though, as the studio is now expecting it to be released on New Year’s Eve.
“I think the holiday season will be a great time to do this,” Doctier said.
“It’s a beautiful film, and the kids are going to enjoy it.
We can’t wait.”
The sequel has been one of Disney’s most anticipated projects in recent years, and Docter and co-director John Lasseter will return to the project in an effort to keep the experience fresh.
“The Frozen franchise has always been a global phenomenon, and now we are going for it with the highest production value and most ambitious narrative in a Disney film,” Disney’s Chief Operating Officer Bob Iger said in a statement.
“With a brand new Frozen 2, Disney will create a world of adventure and celebration, and deliver a story that has been at the forefront of global storytelling for the past 15 years.”
Disney’s Frozen 3: Book of Mormon is set to be a sequel to the first film, with the studio planning to release a teaser trailer and then introduce the film on December 1st.
