The world’s worst animal, a cat, is being held up as an example of a successful clown show in Russia’s capital, according to the nation’s state-run news agency, RIA Novosti.
A group of Russian clowns, called Kommissar and made up of professional clowns from the country’s top circus companies, performed an “experimental” show on the capital’s central square on Thursday night, the news agency reported.
Kommissars are Russian clown artists, often performing in Russia on stage with masks and other props, and some of them are known for their extreme costumes.
They are often seen in public to promote clown culture.
The group of clowns were given a special audience in a separate square in the city of Pripyat, the RIA report said.
The clowns did not pose for pictures with fans or other visitors.RIA said that “several” of the clowns in the performance had previously been involved in a “successful” circus performance in St. Petersburg, which was canceled last year.
The country’s clowning history dates back to the 17th century, according the news service.
The show was also the first time in recent history that Kommissionar clowns performed at a national parade, Ria reported.
