NEW YORK — — — How to find the best amusement park in your city.
The U.S. amusement parks industry is in a tailspin, with the number of visitors dropping to an all-time low, and many parks struggling to attract enough visitors to keep them afloat.
New figures released Monday by the Entertainment Software Association show amusement park operators across the country are struggling to keep their attractions afloat, and some are considering closing altogether.
Overall, the number has fallen from 2.2 billion visits in 2016 to 1.7 billion this year.
According to the latest data from the Entertainment Technology Association, the industry’s largest trade group, the top five U.K. and U.A.I. parks are experiencing declining attendance, with fewer than 1.6 billion visits last year, down from 2 billion in 2015.
Disney and DreamWorks Animation are the only major American entertainment companies still operating in the U.M.A., which represents major entertainment companies like Warner Bros., Disney, Universal, Paramount and CBS Corp.
Disney’s parks are a hit in the United States and have seen a significant spike in attendance over the last year.
It’s the second straight year Disney’s parks have been a top destination for visitors.
“Disney is the most popular Disney theme park,” said Chris Larkin, senior vice president of the American Association of Theme Parks, in a phone interview.
“We are very much aware of that.
It just hasn’t been the same for years.
We are doing everything we can to be competitive.”
Disney is closing two parks in 2017, closing one in 2019 and opening a new park in 2020.
Larkin said the company will announce plans to bring back two parks and a theme park park in the coming years, with other attractions planned.
For the U: Disney, the company has decided to close its Epcot theme park in 2019.
Disney has also announced plans to open its second Magic Kingdom park in 2021, which is about 1.4 miles (2 kilometers) away from the original Magic Kingdom.
